HIROSHIMA-NAGASAKI REMEMBRANCE: PMP REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO PEACE EDUCATION
On Hiroshima-Nagasaki Day, the People’s Movement for Peace (PMP) stood in solidarity with the global community in honoring the memory of the victims of the atomic bombings and reflecting on the lasting impact of nuclear warfare. The day served not only as a solemn reminder of the unimaginable human cost of war but also as a call to action for a future rooted in peace and non-violence.
PMP was privileged to take part in a special commemoration program organized by World Without War and Violence, an international movement committed to disarmament and peace. The event brought together peace advocates, educators, and concerned citizens to reflect on the lessons of the past and to renew our collective responsibility to prevent such tragedies from ever recurring. Representing PMP, Fr. Ditto Sebastian delivered a compelling message on the transformative power of peace education. He emphasized that lasting peace must be cultivated from the ground up—beginning with children, and continuing through youth engagement. He underscored the importance of integrating peace values into education systems, homes, and communities, noting that without this foundation, efforts toward peace remain incomplete. At PMP, we believe that peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice, understanding, and compassion in everyday life. Our commitment to promoting peace education continues to grow stronger, especially in a world still grappling with conflict and division.
As we remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we carry forward a message of hope: that through education, awareness, and unity, a peaceful future is not only possible—it is our shared responsibility.

A Collaborative Step Towards Peace for the New Academic Year
A meeting of students, teachers, parents, and members of the Peace Movement was successfully concluded last Friday, May 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Mahatma Mandiram.
During the fruitful discussion, participants finalized plans for various peace-building activities and training programs to be conducted in schools and colleges throughout June. Everyone, including teachers, students, and members of the People's Movement for Peace, contributed valuable suggestions and made crucial decisions for future initiatives.
To ensure the timely implementation of these plans, various committees have been formed and arrangements have been made to complete the work efficiently. We believe in the power of collective action, and we're committed to working together for a more peaceful society.
To facilitate deeper engagement, participants were divided into special groups for students, parents, and social activists. Each group openly discussed their specific problems and proposed potential solutions. Students shared their difficulties in communicating with peers and adults, while parents expressed their anxieties about their children's upbringing. Members of the general public held a serious discussion on the ill effects of drugs and violence, concluding that collective efforts are essential to address these issues.
The workshop was a great source of inspiration for everyone to work together for peace and unity in Kannur. As a result of the discussions, a decision was made to form public action groups. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who participated.
